The development of new
laser diodes operating in the 1.6~3.8 mm range
based on III-V solid solutions provides a very
attractive tunable source of radiation with high
spectral purity. These lasers meet the requirements
of high-resolution molecular spectroscopy.

The key elements of
super-high resolution laser spectrometers are
tunable semiconductor lasers. Earlier lasing frequency
was usually tuned only by heating. Besides this
quite slow process our tunable diode lasers for
spectral range 2.7-3.8 mm
provide controlled by current wavelength shift
in single-mode lasing towards the shorter wavelength
based on nonlinear optical phenomena. Quantum-mechanical
nature of this mechanism provides high-speed operation
of tuning (approximately 10-12c). Because of the
speed of tuning of these lasers, their use is
also extended into the research fields of the
kinetics of chemical reactions, monitoring of
fast processes and detection of molecular ions
and short-lived radicals. Below, you can see two
examples how our laser diodes were applied in
Tunable Diode Laser.
